2016 Grunge Makeup Looks

OK, ladies—whip out your blackest eyeliner, your smokiest shadows, your deepest shades of blackened plums, purples and red-brown shades and have a seat. It’s time to get fully immersed in the latest trend that takes up where steampunk left off, and totally abandons every other style of makeup with a traditionally demure effect to the dust of bold beauty. Grunge is the new style that’s taking the art of the bohemian style into another dimension, and meeting with uncommon numbers of eager joiners of this next thing for the avid and passive makeup-minded, alike.

The Basic Components Forming the Modern Grunge Effect
It’s all about lavishly strong eyebrows atop eyes with perimeters bathed in extreme lashes, and below these, the key, dark and sultry pout. These elements are what form the 2016 grunge basics, as the building blocks, and just for starters. Within the whole grunge spectrum there are many individual looks, including pastel grunge, slept-in grunge and even girly grunge. The particular slant you give your grunge makeup is entirely up to you and your individual style. You might be more inclined toward a girly grunge look on one day, and then more of a gritty grunge girl the next. Rock your own grunge look with so many wonderful cosmetics from which to choose!

Grunge Made-up Eyes, Lined Right
For the eyes, which are the central focus of the grunge makeup effects, there’s a lot of black here. A nice, wear-resistant soft black Kohl pencil can be used to create a defining, edgy frame all the way around the waterline, followed by a companion line made by using the same pencil–but this one will be on the other side of the lashes, and make it thick. Don’t worry about making this line uber-perfect, as the grunge look is anything but nice and tidy. Just make sure the black is uninterrupted and in between every lash. You’re going to come back now and smudge this outer line with an eyeshadow brush that has soft bristles, to blend and blur the outer edge, so the black gently fades out.anything but nice and tidy. Grunge Lash Effects
Got fake lashes? Bring ‘em on! With grunge eyes, there’s no such thing as “too much,” so go faux, or not–it’s entirely your choice. When sticking with your own lashes, first curl them, and then a few thickly applied coats of serious black mascara (that’s formulated to provide volumized effects) will seal the deal. Spider eye looks are ideal for grunge appeal. Highlight the inner corner and the upper lid of each eye, and then come back in with soft black, to embellish the outer corners and fade out. Done.

Lips
While nude is always acceptable, it’s those blackened colors that totally rock the grunge lips. You don’t even have to buy any special grunge lipstick, just as long as you have a good black lipstick. Play around with different color combos, with laying down a light cover of black, and then covering with pinks, reds, greens, and more. Get creative. Try applying your color first, and then experiment with varying intensities of black on the top. Just make sure there’s at least, a whisper of color within the application. Doesn’t have to be full-on, though. A hint does the trick.

Face
Go light with your foundation, and either go blushless, or apply a whisper of black-undertoned blush to cheekbones. Just a hint here. It’s about your eyes more, anyway.
