The check list gets longer and longer as the summer days get shorter and shorter – it’s time to get ready to go back to school! Organization and preparation are key when getting through your to-do list, which is adding up quickly as school approaches. Here are a few things that you can do to get your home ready for the new school year.

Supplies
Ahhh, the smell of freshly sharpened pencils! Buy everything you need way ahead of time, not only to beat the crowd but also to make sure that you haven’t left anything out. Time is of the essence when it comes to jumping into your schoolwork, so start out on the right foot and stock up on school supplies so you aren’t scrambling to find it all at the last minute.

Your Closet
It’s time to say “good-bye” and “hello” to the old and new styles that you’ll be sporting in school this year. A great rule of thumb is that if you haven’t worn it in over two years, you are not going to wear it. So, as much as it may hurt to part with your hole filled flannel shirt or shredded jeans, it’s probably time to find those guys a new home. Another good rule to go by when cleaning out your closet is not to buy just to buy! If you are going to purchase a new sweater, get rid of an old one – rotate out your old items and replace them with new ones that you are excited about wearing.

Your Bathroom
Organize your bathroom to make getting ready in the mornings and before bed a breeze! Have a morning drawer and an evening drawer to keep things separate and simple to locate. This will cut down on prep time significantly and reduce the stress of getting ready, especially if you are already running late.

Your Own Calendar
Certainly the year will be full of dances, events, play dates, sports and extra curricular activities that you don’t want to miss! It’s time to get your phone calendar in sync with your home calendar. As easy as it may to just carry around your digital calendar with you and check it every now and then, actually writing these plans down on paper and having them in plain sight each day, keeps those dates at the forefront of your mind and is just a great way to ensure that you don’t forget ANYthing. It also helps out parents to see what you are doing and where you are on what day in case they can’t get a hold of you.

Organization is key when you are starting school, and it all starts at home!
