We all have different shaped faces,- that should come as no surprise – but did you ever think that the shape of your face might dictate what hairstyle looks best on you? No matter if you have a round, long, square or heart shaped face, the goal is to find a hairstyle that gives the impressions that you have an oval shaped face, or at least something similar to an oval. If you already have an oval shaped face, you’re in luck: most any hairstyle will look great on you. Let’s take a look at the different shaped faces and what hairstyles look best on them.
If you have a round face, you’ll most likely want to go with an asymmetrical haircut. This means that your hair will have varying lengths throughout and two different lengths on the left and right side. Long hair also helps give the illusion of a longer face, whereas you want to avoid shorter hair, especially pixie styles that make your face actually look rounder. You should also go for side swept bangs to create sharp angles, and wavy hair helps take away attention from the roundness.
If you have a long face, you’ll be best suited with a shoulder length haircut, as any longer will only accentuate the length of your face, and any shorter might look a bit strange with a long face. You also want to create the illusion of width; so again, waves and volume will make your long face seem a bit wider, and less skinny. If you have a long or large forehead, bangs will do wonders in helping to cover up and also make your face seem less long. Other looks to consider are a long bob or a chin-length bob to give some added width. A side part can also help, where a center part will only make your face appear longer.
While the term “square face” might not sound flattering, think of a strong face with a nice sharp jaw line. Many of the most beautiful celebrities such as Olivia Wilde, Rachel McAdams have square faces; so let’s take some lessons from them. The most obvious look is to go with long hair, as it accentuates the strong jaws and sharp features. Some like to try and hide their angular features with a side-swept look, but others embrace it with off the face hairstyles. The good news is with a square face you can pretty much choose any style and it will look good on you. The only downside is that iron-straight hair often looks unflattering, so try adding some waves or curls if you have very straight hair.
Heart Shaped Faces
These versatile faces are very common and literally are shaped with a more pointy chin, that curves around into the forehead (many people actually have a Widow’s Peak, causing the face to actually look like a heart!) Celebs such as Reese Witherspoon boasts the ultimate heart-shaped face and like Reese, hair varies from all one length to shoulder length layers with bangs. Medium to longer hairstyles are best for this shape!
