Tips For The Perfect Summer Shave

Summer time is synonymous with swimsuits, shorts and leg baring garments. Let’s face it, we tend to have our legs out all season long (weather permitting). Since our legs are out much more this time of year, it’s natural to want to feel confident with them! Naturally, shaving and getting those silky smooth looking legs is a huge part of that confidence boost throughout the season. Before you get discouraged about whipping out your summer gear, we have some tips for the perfect summer shave. So you can enjoy this summer season with pride in your silky smooth gams!

Don’t Push Down Too Hard
It’s common to feel rushed when shaving your legs, and also feeling like you need to push down with your razor in order to get a close shave. The truth is, you don’t need to be putting a lot of pressure on your razor. In fact, you shouldn’t be! Putting too much pressure when using your razor on your skin can lead to a lot of irritation in the skin, and even result in nicks and cuts.

Always Use a Sharp Razor
Look, we get it…we all feel like we can go a while with the same razor before really replacing it. But using a dull razor often leads to damage to the skin (in the form on nicks, cuts and dullness). In addition, when you use a dull razor you’re much more likely to apply too much pressure (see above) when shaving. All that being said, make sure you’re using a sharp razor when shaving! The freshness of the razor will allow you to use less pressure, and not damage your skin.

Exfoliate Before You Shave
While shaving does help with the exfoliation process of your skin, it doesn’t help the actual shaving process. Starting with a smooth, super clean surface of skin prior to shaving can help you to get a much closer shave in a smooth way. Exfoliating helps to remove dead skin cells, as well as dirt/oil build up on the skin. All of these elements can keep your razor from getting as close of a shave as you’d really like. So…get into the habit of exfoliating your skin prior to shaving.

Make Sure Your Skin is Soft
Let’s just start by saying this…DON’T shave DRY skin! Dry skin is much tougher and shaving it can result in a lot of problems to your skin. Instead, allow your skin to soak/get wet in the shower for a couple of minutes before starting the shaving process. When your skin is wet it’s much softer and will allow the razor to glide across your skin in a much softer and smoother manner.

Moisturize After
After you shave your skin, it’s essential that you apply a moisturizing product to your skin as soon as possible. Moisturizing products help to keep your skin soft and smooth, since your pores are much more open after shaving applying right after helps to keep your skin smooth for a longer period of time.
