Brittle hair is one of the main symptoms of the Cushing’s Syndrome. This rare condition usually occurs due to an excess of cortisol and leads to symptoms like back pain, high blood pressure and fatigue. One of the simplest treatments for this disease is to change the medicines that cause an excess of cortisol in your body. However, if symptoms worsen, chemotherapy, radiation therapy or surgery may be necessary.

Patchy Scalp
Scaly or crusty patches on the scalp are usually symptoms of a problem known as psoriasis. Psoriasis can be distinguished from dandruff by its thick scabby surface. It is a common skin issue and usually occurs when your skin starts sending faulty signals that force an abnormal increase in cell turnover and skin cell growth. Psoriasis, if left untreated, can lead to more serious issues such as lupus and Crohn’s disease. There is a long list of psoriasis treatments available, but these treatments are usually conducted on a trial and error basis. Hair Shedding
If you notice that you’ve suddenly begun to shed a lot more hair than usual, you could be suffering from a shortage of iron in your body. Lack of iron leads to an issue known as anemia and this certainly warrants medical testing. Anemia is more common among vegetarians because of the common lack of iron in this type of diet. To prevent this from happening, add more iron-rich food items to your diet. Another reason behind sudden hair shedding could be changes in your estrogen levels. This is usually noticeable after stopping birth control or after pregnancy.

Gray Hair
The root cause of gray hair is very common: stress. With so many people living stressful lives, gray hair is even becoming fashionable. It is still unclear as to why stress causes hair to turn gray, but the change in color is partly dictated by the genes as well.

White flakes on the scalp are usually a sign of dandruff and they don’t pose any health risk. Some of the root causes of dandruff include fungus overgrowth, stress, cold, dry weather, eczema, oily skin and obesity. However, if your dandruff is greasy and yellow in color, you might be suffering from seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis is an inflammatory skin condition that usually occurs due to hormonal, fungal or neurological problems.

Dry, Thinning Hair
People who have dry and thinning hair might be suffering from a condition known as hypothyroidism. This condition means that the thyroid gland isn’t working properly. It can alter the way your hair looks and it can also lead to other symptoms like weight gain, joint pain and a puffy face. Contact a doctor to conduct a TSH test to diagnose the condition.
